Casper Officials To Write Off Uncollectable Debt
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) ―
City officials in Casper have decided to write off $216,000 of what they describe as uncollectable debts that go back more than two decades.
City officials say the money is owed by people who have either died or received long prison sentences.
A memo by the city's finance directors says the city and its collection agency has exhausted all efforts to collect the money.
State law allows cities to write off uncollectable debts with the approval of the city council.
