July 2009 was by no means the wettest July ever, however if you look back at the past 10 years it was the first time since 2001 that we received any significant rain in July.
DIA recorded a total of 3.56 inches during July 2009, this ended up pushing our rainfall to 1.40 inches above the normal of 2.16 inches.
The wettest July ever recorded was 6.41 inches set in 1965. The driest was in 1901 with .01 inches. This July, DIA saw 20 days of rainfall which ranged from a trace to 1.01 inches on July 20.
With all the rain we received in July it's pushed our yearly rainfall to almost 14 inches, that's not far off from our overall yearly average of 15.81 inches.
In a given year the wettest months occur in late spring and summer, May is number one with an average of 2.32 inches and July comes in second place with 2.16 inches.
