Wet Weekend Helps Denver's Rain Gauge

DENVER (CBS4) ― The 2008 calendar year was on pace to be the driest year ever for Denver, but after a soggy weekend things have turned around.

With all the rain we received this past weekend, August is on now on track to be the 3rd wettest August ever with more than 4 inches of rain for the month. Up until Aug. 4, Denver had only received 3.28 inches of precipitation. Denver's driest year was 2002 when the city had 7.48 inches of precipitation. So far this year, we've received 7.31 inches of precipitation.

From Friday Aug. 15 to Sunday Aug. 17, Denver received more than 2 inches of rain. The totals the National Weather Service received from the metro area and Front Range were varied from more than 4 inches to around an inch for the 3 days.

Chatfield Dam: 3.37"

Littleton: 3.33"

Sterling: 3:30"

Parker 3.17"

Castle Rock 3.13"

Fredrick 3.05"

Golden 3.00"

Aurora 1.89"

As of Thursday Aug. 14, the U.S. Drought Monitor showed much of Eastern Colorado with moderate to severe drought conditions with the southeastern corner of the state into the panhandle of Oklahoma and southwest Kansas under extreme drought conditions.
