Above Normal Temps Expected Through Holidays

Written by Dave Aguilera

DENVER (CBS4) ―

Here is a quick climatological look at the weather through October and through the rest of the year.

The 30 day outlook for temperature in Colorado shows that most of the state will be near normal. (With one exception, the Four Corners area may be slightly warmer than average through October.)

In Denver, that means we should start the month with highs in the low 70s and finish up with normal highs in the low 60s to upper 50s. Overnight lows in the Mile High City average near 40 to start October and finish up near 30 degrees.

In the precipitation department most of the state should be near normal for the month. For Denver, that could be interesting. Our average date of the first snow is Oct. 19. And we average 4.1 inches of snow in October.

The 90 day outlook includes October, November and December as a whole. The temperature outlook shows most of the state to be warmer than normal. Which is good to see if you don't care for really cold weather leading up to the holidays.

As far as precipitation goes, most of Colorado should be near normal on precipitation and drier than normal from the San Luis Valley across the southern San Juans into the Four Corners. Normal snowfall in Denver for November is 10.7 inches and 8.7 inches for December.

By the way, there is a consensus of forecasts that maintains what's called ENSO Neutral conditions into next year. Meaning we will not have a strong El Nino or La Nina affecting our weather for the rest of the year.
