Will Denver See 100 Degrees This Summer?
By Meteorologist Jennifer Zeppelin
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Denver has yet to see the thermometer hit 100 degrees this year. The chance we'll experience triple digit readings in 2009 have come and gone, at least statistically.
The latest date we've ever recorded 100 occurred Aug. 16, 2002. When you compare this year with the past 10 years, 2004 and 1999 didn't see 100 either, so it's not uncommon.
What a difference a year makes in 2008 Denver recorded three 100 degree temperatures between July and August. Since 1872 when record-taking began, 2005 went down in the record books for seeing the most triple digit readings 7 days were recorded in July.
The highest temperature Denver has ever recorded is 105 degrees -- we've seen it only twice July 20, 2005 and Aug. 8, 1878.
While Denver hasn't experienced intense heat this summer other parts of the state have -- Pueblo, Lamar, Springfield and Grand Junction have recorded plenty of 100 degree
