DENVER (CBS4/AP) ― Funnel clouds were spotted in downtown Denver near Coors Field, prompting fans at the Colorado Rockies game to be briefly moved from the stadium seats to the concourses.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the Denver metro area, and warning sirens blasted downtown at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

"There were some (funnel clouds) that came down and then they would dissipate then some other people were taking pictures with their phones and kind of joking about it," fan Bill Menezes said. "Of course once the tarp came out everybody went undercover."

"Everybody kind of freaked out, just like right now, those sirens just like that and everybody just got out of their seats and left," fan Hector Perez said. "It was a little scary, but once we got under cover I think people were just trying to figure out what was going on."

A tornado watch was in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday in northeastern Colorado.

The Rockies hosted the Seattle Mariners in a game that began at 1:10 p.m. The game was stopped in the sixth inning with the Rockies leading 7-1. Play resumed just before 4 p.m.. Garrett Atkins and Todd Helton had three hits each and the Colorado Rockies beat the Seattle Mariners 7-1, matching the franchise record with their 11th straight win. After the game players talked about the tornado warning.

"It was the first time. It was a little scary because standing from shortstop you could kind of see it over on the left field side," Troy Tulowitzski said. "It was a first for me but I'm glad everything went okay and hopefully, for the people it did affect, everything is alright."

"In Tulsa I think we got stopped for one game because of tornado warnings, so this is number two, minor league stuff and then today," Ryan Spilborghs said. "We just see all the people pointing in the crowd and, you know, we're looking up to see what's going on."

There were no immediate reports of tornado damage in Colorado.
