The first Category 5 hurricane of 2009 is a "Super Typhoon."
The picture on the right is an awesome infrared satellite picture of Choi-wan, from the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning center.
This is the first Category 5 typhoon/hurricane of the season in the Pacific Ocean.
Super Typhoon is a term used by the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center for typhoons with sustained winds at least 150 miles per hour. That is the equivalent of a strong Category 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
