The streak of severe weather along the Front Range is letting up after about a week, but the financial fallout is just starting.
The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Center estimates the cost of the storms that unleashed heavy rains, hail and tornadoes at about $161 million. That would make it the state's fifth costliest series of storms ever.
Teams from insurance companies are in Colorado to quickly approve payments. State Farm Insurance's catastrophe unit is processing hundreds of claims a day.
Hail was the culprit in Colorado's three most expensive storms: 1. July 11, 1990, $625 million; 2. June 13-14, 1984, $276 million; 3. Oct. 1, 1994, $225 million.
