DENVER (CBS4) ― A delicate business in Arvada took a huge hit from Monday night's storms.

Stevens and Son Wholesale Florist grows plants for a variety of businesses. It has two greenhouse complexes in the area of Interstate 70 and Ward. The roofs over both of the complexes were torn to shreds. In fact, not a single panel is salvageable.

The owner estimates that he lost 20 to 30 percent of his plants and says it's going to take about six weeks to replace all of the roof panels. He says the hail that came through in the area was only about the size of large marbles, but the wind drove them into the greenhouses.

It looked as if someone had opened fire with a machine gun. It only took about 20 minutes for the storm to do all of the damage. It's something the owner has never seen in his time there.

"I've been in business for 32 years and I've never seen anything like this, never heard of anybody having this kind of damage out of a hail storm," said Bruce Daniel, Company President.

Daniel says the damage is already well into six figures, but he wants to stress that he is still conducting business as usual. They were open for business the day after the storm and need their customers more than ever right now to help support them.
