Record 90s Streak For Denver Finally Ends

DENVER (CBS4) ― Denver's record streak of 90 degrees has come to an end. Cloudy skies moved in and provided a round of rain showers keeping the afternoon high at DIA from reaching to 90.

The streak ends at 24 days in a row of 90 degree days or more. It beat a 107 year old record of 18 days

The reason for the streak? A ridge of high pressure has been parked over the Four Corners region and intensified for weeks, not allowing any major disturbances to come our way, according to CBS4 meteorologist Jennifer Zeppelin.

Tuesday temperatures topped out in the low 90's before storms rolled through the area. Wednesday's high was only in the upper 80s.

Denver experienced 41 days of 90 degree temperatures since June. The record for the most 90 degree days in a year was set in 2000 with 61 days.

The average over the last 30 years in Denver is 32 days with temperatures at or above 90.

Denver is just 10 days away form the No. 10 top seasonal total of 50, which was set back in 1964 and 1960. On average, the month of August can experience nine 90 degree days.
