The unmanned NASA probe Phoenix landed on Mars Sunday evening, May 25, 2008, to begin a three month exploration of the Martian North Pole. These are some of the first pictures of the Polar region from the surface, sent by the lander within hours of a near perfect landing.

At least two people died when a wind-driven wildfires swept across the plains and forced 1,110 residents to evacuate from southeastern Colorado town of Ordway Tuesday.
Deadly Mid-April Colorado Wildfires

Wildfires in Colorado killed three people April 15 as strong winds drove the flames toward homes in Ordway, Fort Carson and Carbondale. The entire town of Ordway was evacuated and some homes were destroyed.
