'Work Spouse' Relationships Can Be Beneficial

DENVER (CBS4) ― A new study says one in 10 of us has a so-called work spouse, and they don't have to be a member of the opposite sex.

Radio host "Slacker" of Alice 105.9 told CBS4 his relationship with co-host Steve is great.

"We're two rough and tumble fellers, but we can shop together and each lunch together and explore our spousiness without exploring every angle of spousiness."

A Denver psychotherapist said that as long as there are healthy boundaries such relationships can be beneficial.

"That good work partner is supportive of you during the day, you're getting the job done, you're both having each other's back, so to speak. So they go back into the home situation and bring that positive experience with them," said Mary Bernuth of Conscious Living Psychotherapy.

Bernuth said inside jokes, closed door meetings and close contact could foster jealousy from the real spouse.

The online survey was conducted for CareerBuilder.com.
