Survey Reveals Why Some Men Cheat On Their Wives
Survey Of The Unfaithful Reveals Surprising Results
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
Why do you men cheat? Women have been asking that painful question forever. So who better to answer than 100 men who have been unfaithful?
"You get caught up in a moment, you lose control of reason," says Brandon Freeman, an admitted cheater.
In a survey of 200 cheating and non-cheating husbands, the number one reason a man strays is "emotional dissatisfaction," such as feeling unappreciated. Only 8-percent said it had anything to do with sex or physical dissatisfaction, reports CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City.
The study also found that if your husband has cheated there's a 93-percent chance he won't admit it.
The findings are in the book "The Truth About Cheating," which also found only 12 percent of the men said their mistresses were more attractive than their wives and 40 percent of men met the "other woman" at work.
A New Yorker who identified herself as "Lianne" told WCBS her husband turned to a co-worker for attention.
"We had 2 children in the past six years, new jobs. We've been putting our effort and time into other things. If I look back I could see how emotionally we were disconnected," she said.
Dr. Anne-Renee Testa says men often blame their wives for neglecting them at home.
"Women blame themselves over and over again and I'm here to say: Women do not blame yourselves," she says.
Dr. Testa says appreciation and communication are the foundations of marriage and the only way to survive infidelity is to talk about it openly.
"Always communicate without saying, 'You, you, you, you, you.' It's about, 'You know, I'm feeling that things aren't quite the way they use to be,'" she says.
Testa says both parties have to want to save the relationship, and to do that you have to move forward with a clean slate, which means not rehashing the past.
