Man Accused Of Assault On Soccer Referee
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) ―
A Grand Junction man was being ordered to appear in court this December for allegedly assaulting a concert trumpeter, part-time soccer referee and professor.
Arnulfo Ibarra, 29, received a summons stemming from the incident last week.
Authorities said he's suspected of assaulting a Mesa State College professor during the Sept. 24 game at Canyon View Park.
Calvin Hofer, 44, told The Daily Sentinel newspaper he made a call during a morning soccer match that upset Ibarra.
Hofer said Ibarra walked onto the field and hit him in the mouth.
He suffered a split lip and bruising and was unable to play during a recent concert by the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.
Ibarra was due back in Mesa County Court on Dec. 11.
