Denver Deuce Offers Blast From Past

DENVER (CBS4) ― While the big 3 automakers in Detroit are asking for help from Congress, a small-time car maker in Denver says its vehicles are selling just fine. They're called Denver Deuce.

"It's actually durable like Denver, stands the test of time like Denver and above all stands higher than the rest like Denver," said Race Ruedisueli, the Denver Deuce sales manager.

The company is making auto bodies for replica 1932 Ford Roadsters. It sells about three a week to customers all over the world.

The parts do come from Detroit.

"It obviously affects us a bit when we see the big 3 struggling we're concerned about it," said Todd Gold, the company's owner. "You don't have to have a Hot Rod to run to the grocery store, although my guys would argue a bit about that."

The Denver Deuce arrived in the Mile High City at the beginning of this year. It is one of several Hot Rod enterprises, including Gennie Shifter Gearshift Knobs, under the banner of Streamline.

The owner, Gold, believes the big 3 should not be bailed out.

"I don't think we should be bailing out any businesses," Gold said. "It's sort of the natural progression of the economy."

The body of a Denver Deuce sells for $11,000. Anyone who wants it totally made will spend $60,000 to $250,000.
