Philly Cabbie's Ear Bitten Off In Alleged Robbery
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ―
Police have arrested a man who they said robbed a cab driver and bit part of his ear off during an assault Saturday morning, CBS station KYW-TV in Philadelphia reports.
It happened just before 6 a.m. along the 3800 block of North Broad Street in Philadelphia's Hunting Park section.
According to authorities, the 47-year-old suspect entered the Quaker City cab and demanded money from the driver. Police allege the suspect bit off a chunk of the driver's ear, pushed him out of the car and sped off before crashing the taxi into an SUV a block away at Broad and Pike Streets.
The suspect fled but police were able to catch up to him, apprehending the man while recovering a knife and more than 180 dollars. His identity was not released and charges against the man are pending.
The 60-year-old victim was taken to Temple University Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay. Officials said the part of his ear that was bitten off likely may not be reattached.
