Neb. Appeals Court Dismisses Lawsuit Against God

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) ― The Nebraska Court of Appeals has dismissed a lawsuit filed against God by former state Sen. Ernie Chambers.

In 2007, Chambers sought a permanent injunction against God, saying the Almighty has inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions."

But a Douglas County district judge threw out the lawsuit because the Almighty wasn't served a legal notice. Chambers appealed, arguing that since God is supposedly all-knowing, the Almighty would know about the lawsuit.

The appeals court vacated the lower court's order, but still dismissed the lawsuit. The ruling says the court does not decide abstract questions or hypothetical or fictitious issues.

Chambers said his lawsuit raises serious issues.
