Golf Pro Hits Hole-In-One As CBS4 Crew Films

Written by Jesse Sarles, cbs4denver.com

ERIE, Colo. (CBS4) ― It's the most glorious event in the game of golf. It's what every golfer dreams about. A hole-in-one.

The chances that a lifetime golfer scores a hole-in-one are pretty small, but occasionally it happens. The chances that a golfer does it on a par 4 while a TV crew is there filming? Well, you'd just say that just wouldn't happen, right?

Wrong.

It happened Thursday morning in Erie at Vista Ridge Golf Course. CBS4 had a news crew right there. (See the video in the attached video player to the right.)

Sportscaster Vic Lombardi is getting ready to feature local golf courses for an upcoming segment on air and Jason Dumler, head professional at Vista Ridge, was showing him the ins and outs of his course on Thursday.

During the filming, Dumler lined up on the gold tee at the 17th hole and knocked a drive that measured about 330 yards in distance (The carry was about 270). It dropped right in the cup.

"Omigod! You've got to roll on that!" Lombardi says to photographer Roger Masterton in the video right after the drive. Masterton's camera then zooms in and shows that the ball is nowhere to be found on the green. Upon closer inspection it's clear that Colorado golf history was just made.

Funny enough, right before Dumler's shot Lombardi and Dumler had just been talking about how no one had ever hit a hole-in-one on the 17th.

Dumler has been teaching golf for 7 years and, according to Vista Ridge's Web site, he is currently pursuing his PGA membership.

Lombardi's series of reports will be called the Colorado Back 9. Look for them on CBS4 in June.

Fun Fact

  • Throughout the history of the PGA Tour there has only been one recorded hole-in-one on a par 4. (More from About.com)
