World Wrestling Entertainment has come off the top rope with a body slam to Stan Kroenke and the Pepsi Center. WWE is fired up over a scheduling conflict with the arena that threatens to cancel a WWE event due to the Nuggets playoff series.
According to an email sent to CBS4 Sports, WWE says it has been holding Monday May 25th as the date for its popular
WWE Monday Night Raw since August of 2008. That's the same date the Nuggets are scheduled to take on the Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals at Pepsi Center.
The email says the wrestling producers and the Nuggets are "...currently at an impasse in resolving a scheduling debacle by the team and the Pepsi Center."
But the word "debacle" was only the first salvo in the WWE's email. It goes on to quote WWE chairman Vince McMahon who takes a swipe at Kroenke.
"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs," McMahon says, "obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game."
When contacted by CBS4, Kroenke Sport Enterprises declined to comment.
