DENVER (CBS4) - As the Ravens frustrated Denver's offense time and time again on Sunday, legendary Broncos quarterback John Elway says he thinks they were possibly leaving a blueprint other opponents can now follow.
In Denver's 30-7 loss in Baltimore the Ravens dropped their safeties back and put heavy pressure on quarterback Kyle Orton, forcing him to make throws in some cases before his plays were able to develop.
"Coaches cheat off each other worse than in any other profession," Elway said. "If anything, the Ravens have shown maybe where the Broncos weak spot is and I think you'll see other teams try to do that."
Elway says the Broncos might have been more successful offensively on Sunday if they had run the ball better.
"I think they've got to establish that running game and get Knowshon Moreno involved a little more," Elway said.
Also, they were facing a Ravens team that features a strong defensive unit. Combine that with the fact that they had just lost three straight games and were "on their heels and needed a big win" and Elway said the matchup just didn't favor the Broncos.
"Baltimore was ready to play. They were more desperate," he said.
Elway said when the Broncos face the Steelers next Monday night it's not likely that they'll reshuffle their whole game plan. After all, it led them to six straight victories to start the season.
"I don't think they are going to be able to change their philosophy in one week," Elway said. "After one tough loss you can't rewrite the books and start all over and say 'What we're doing is not successful' because it has been successful, so I'm sure they'll stay on course and stay with it."
