'Ice Bowl' Raises Money For Colorado Food Banks
ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) ―
More than 100 people took part in the Mile High Ice Bowl over the weekend, a disc golf tournament in Arvada. The event raises money for the Arvada Food Bank and the Food Bank of the Rockies.
The rules of disc golf are almost exactly the same as regular golf. The difference is the Frisbees and metal baskets that replace balls, clubs and holes in the ground.
"The three discs we have are a driver, a mid-range disc, and then a putter," said John Bird of the Mile High Disc Golf Club.
This year was the sixth year for the Ice Bowl.
Last year the event raised $10,000 for the food banks. Organizers were hoping to match that with this year's tournament.
"They can go out and get pledges for raising money and then we give them extra mulligans for that so some of these guys have up to a hundred mulligans that they're going to be throwing for the day," said Bird.
