Sophomore LB Kicked Off Colorado Football Team

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ― Sophomore outside linebacker Nate Vaiomounga has been dismissed from the University of Colorado football team for violating team rules.

The move was announced Tuesday by athletic director Mike Bohn and football coach Dan Hawkins.

Vaiomounga was academically ineligible this season and now has been removed from the squad altogether, but Hawkins and Bohn didn't reveal the nature of the infraction, saying only that it was unrelated to the thefts at the Buffaloes' locker room during a football game last weekend.

"We have been consistent in showing no tolerance for poor decision-making," Hawkins said in a statement. "We constantly tell these young men that once is a mistake, twice is a behavior. They know they are representatives of the university, role models to many, and even ambassadors of their own families. Don't do anything that would embarrass your parents, do those things that will make them proud."

Campus police are continuing to investigate reports by five players that personal items were taken from their lockers during the Buffs' loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday.
