Crawford Included In Bertuzzi Attack Lawsuit
TORONTO (AP) ―
Former Colorado Avalanche player Steve Moore is including former Vancouver Canucks coach Marc Crawford in a multi-million-dollar lawsuit over the attack by forward Todd Bertuzzi.
Moore decided to include Crawford in the lawsuit after Bertuzzi claimed that his contract compelled him to follow his coach's orders. Bertuzzi has alleged in court documents that Crawford told him "to make (Moore) 'pay the price"' for a hit against Vancouver captain Markus Naslund in an earlier game.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
Bertuzzi grabbed Moore from behind during the 2004 game and punched him in the head before landing on top of him. Moore had three fractured vertebrae in his neck, a concussion and facial cuts, and hasn't played since.
Moore originally filed the $38 million lawsuit against Bertuzzi and the Vancouver Canucks. Bertuzzi wants Crawford to be partially responsible for financial damages if Moore wins the case.
