Ailing Nuggets Fan Gets Special Seats

DENVER (CBS4) ― A gift in the form of a suite seat for Monday night's Denver Nuggets playoff game gave a boost to an ailing lifelong fan and entertainer.

Terminal cancer has robbed Marvin "Henchi" Graves" of his energy but not his enthusiasm for his home team.

Like the Nuggets now, Graves, 64, made some noise in his day as one of two lead singers for the 1970's R&B group the Freddi-Henchi Band.

In the late years of his life in Denver, Graves has attend 4 to 5 Nuggets games per season.

His chance to see the crucial Game 4 of the Western Conference finals at the Pepsi Center came from an act of kindness by a Denver Post reader.

The Post on Sunday printed a story about Graves and how he is near death and was hoping for one last chance to see the Nuggets play.

The HospiceCare Center of Boulder and Broomfield counties where Graves now lives got several offers, including one from Dan Cook who invited Graves into his suite. Doctors agreed that would be the preferred setup for Graves to see the game.

"My father has cancer and is dying of cancer right now. It's a tough thing so we're very very happy to do it," said Cook, the owner of Swiss Tire and Automotive in Castle Rock.

"What was your reaction when you heard that you were going to the Nuggets game?" CBS4's Howard Nathan asked Graves at the suite.

"Yeeaaah!" Graves said.

At the game, Graves received autographs from the players and coaches, plus he got to see his team beat the Los Angeles Lakers 120-101, evening the Western Conference finals at two games apiece.

"I say, 'Keep on rocking,'" Graves said proudly in a message meant for all Nuggets fans.
