Peter Budaj signed a one-year $1.25 million contract with the Avalanche on Monday to avoid arbitration. Budaj made $800,000 last season, and was speculated to be cut loose by the Avalanche, who finished last in the Western Conference.
Going into training camp, Budaj is likely to be the No. 2 goalie for the Avs. Colorado is still waiting to hear from 24-year-old Swedish goalie Jonas Gustavsson. If Gustavsson doesn't choose the Avs, it's likely that the team will look to sign a free agent goalie. Possible netminders are Martin Biron, Ty Conklin, Scott Clemmensen and Craig Anderson. The possibility of signing Nikolai Khabibulin is a longshot.
