Dr. Dave Hnida has made several trips to Iraq. Once as a battalion surgeon for a combat unit in 2004, just as the insurgency came to life. In the summer of 2007, he returned to Iraq for a four-month stint as a trauma surgeon for Combat Support Hospital in northern Iraq. That tour coincided with the troop surge in Baghdad, which pushed the insurgents to the north, making his CSH a major medical center. He shares photos he took over the course of the five years, and ones given to him by fellow service members.
