Mountain Resorts Offer Deals To Lure Tourists

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4) ― Mountain resorts and restaurants are offering discounts this summer to draw Front Range tourists into the high country as gas prices keep climbing.

"A lot of the lodging properties are offering special, percentages off, great rates that you wouldn't get in the height of summer, much less in the winter time," said Katie Coakley of Peeples Ink, a Vail-Based public relations firm.

With summer lodging prices sometimes as $200 a night in Vail, CBS4 found one lodge offering $99 a night.

Other businesses are also offering discounts on spa treatments and other activities.

"We just got a discount at the restaurant we at in," said Carolyn Canaday, a tourist from Virginia. "Twenty-five percent off, it was really nice."

Business leaders in Frisco said they were working on a program where people who stay for 2 nights would get a $20 or $25 gas certificate.

Many said to expect more discount packages throughout the summer including free bus rides and discounted bike rentals.
