Little Said After Key Dillon Dam Road Meeting

DILLON, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ―

The fate of the closure of Dillon Dam Road remains uncertain after a meeting between Denver Water and the Summit County Sheriff's office.

Colorado homeland security director Maj. Gen. Mason Whitney facilitated the meeting, which lasted most of the day at the Dillon Police Department.

Both sides talked after the meeting and both sides said they were happy with recommendations they came up with. But officials would not say what those recommendations are or if the road will be reopened.

The recommendations stemming from the meeting must be approved by the Denver Water Board and Summit County commissioners before they are made public.

Dillon Reservoir in Summit County is Denver's main drinking water source, and the water board closed Dillon Dam Road along the Reservoir last week because of security concerns surrounding the earthen dam that contains the reservoir.

Denver Water rearranged barriers on the road and gave Summit County authorities keys to unlock gates so emergency vehicles could get through.

The Lake Dillon Fire Protection District said the gates will slow response time and issued a notice Wednesday ordering Denver Water to comply with fire codes. The district referred the alleged violation to the sheriff's department.

Summit County authorities said there doesn't appear to be a specific security threat to the dam.

Denver Water officials have said they want to work with Summit County to resolve the dispute.
