Coloradans Ranks 36th In Charitable Contribuitions

DENVER (CBS4) ― Coloradans are more affluent than the national average, but apparently less generous.

Colorado ranks fifth in income, but only 36th in charitable contributions.

The data comes from the first state-wide study of charitable donations in Colorado.

Gov. Bill Ritter hopes the numbers encourage more Coloradans to reach out to the less fortunate.

"People giving can think about their giving in terms of human faces," Ritter said. "So many other times we think of it in terms of percentage of our income, or we think about it on an IRS return, but you should really put a face to the giving that you actually are able to do."

When broken into six regions, southwestern Colorado is the most generous and the Denver metro region is the least.
