CBS4 has won three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association this year in key categories Newscast, Web Site and Breaking News.

"We are honored to receive these prestigious awards," News Director Tim Wieland said. "It's an impressive performance -- winning three very important categories and this truly demonstrates the depth of our news organization."

-- Newscast: CBS4 News at 10 p.m. was recognized as the best newscast in Region 3 (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming). The newscast was from the night of the Continental Flight 1404 crash at Denver International Airport in December.

-- Web Site: cbs4denver.com coverage in the past year has included the Democratic National Convention in Denver, the Continental crash at DIA and the tornado that hit Windsor and other Weld county communities in May.

"It's a big point of pride to be honored with the award for Best Web site in a year when so many large-scale news events have happened in Colorado," site manager Jesse Sarles said. "We have seen more and more people coming to cbs4denver.com for the latest news and information, and we've redoubled our efforts to be the first and the best on the Web with stories that are important to Coloradans."

-- Breaking News. CBS4 was recognized for excellent coverage of the Windsor tornado.

Each entry will now compete for a National Edward R. Murrow Award.

Two other CBS owned and operated television stations won awards for best Web site -- WCCO in Minneapolis and WFOR in Miami.

RTNDA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
