Colorado's ski industry may beat the recession this season.
Bargain hunters are eating up promotions at ski resorts and hotel reservations are up over last year.
Yet, all of the bargain hunting can come at a price for ski areas. The resort companies and the ski companies are trying to find new aggressive price points. In some instances that may mean $1,000 off per person for a multi-night stay.
As they work to turn things around, resorts have said that they're seeing signs of recovery.
"Last November we were down 25% year over year, and so this year we're only down 13% which is better," said Katie Adamson with Vail Resorts.
A recent study by M Trip showed the second straight month of growth in reservations at the resorts, but customers have still been cautious waiting for the perfect time to travel.
The numbers are down compared to this time a year ago, but most resorts are ignoring the reservation rollercoaster with confidence. Some parts of the industry are even doing pretty well.
"At some of our premier properties those are sold out. So if you wait, and you want to book a ski in ski out premier location at Vail or Beaver Creek or here at Keystone, you're out of luck," Adamson said.
While things are looking better, it doesn't mean the ski industry's problems are over. The reports just said that the situation is less volatile.
While there are improvements, the sign of real recovery will be full advance reservations for the months of December and March.
