Beat The Recession By Going To A Student Spa

DENVER (CBS4) ― A massage sounds great. A facial -- fantastic. But in this economy pampering can be too pricey. CBS4's Kathy Walsh found that people can beat the recession and still enjoy spa services.

Times are tight, but that doesn't mean your skin should sag. A massage can go a long way in relieving stress. Heritage College, a student clinic, offers a way to indulge inexpensively.

Jane Becker says you can't beat the price.

"Almost weekly," Becker said about going to the spa. "I at least try to get here once every two weeks."

That's over the last five years.

"Well it's $24 an hour and then, you know, I give a tip of five bucks so," Becker said. "It's $29 for an hour of service, so it's worth it. That's why I can afford to come."

Just across the hall from Becker, Rob Raleigh was undergoing microdermabrasion --sanding or polishing the skin to exfoliate and rejuvenate. The treatment can cost $75 and up. Raleigh pays $37.

"I've never had anything but a perfect experience here," Raleigh said.

Arielle Miller is about to get her degree in massage therapy at Heritage. Jessica Smaldone as an esthetician. After a year in classes and training, they spend six weeks in the clinic. It's work experience for students and a bargain for clients.

"Most of our services run about a third of what they would cost out there in the normal workplace, I guess," Nate Ewert with Heritage College said.

"You know today in today's economy everything is about value," Raleigh said.

Value and great service keep Raleigh coming back to the Heritage Clinic.

Becker worries about spreading the word.

"Now the secret is out I'm not going to be able to get in," she said. "Everybody's going to be wanting to come."
