Something as simple as buying bread at the supermarket can strain a family budget these days. A standard loaf can be more than $2, and double that for the fancier products.
But for those who like carbohydrates and keeping a hold of their cash, CBS4's Kathy Walsh has found a way to beat the recession and still make plenty of sandwiches.
At the bakery outlet store on East Evans in Denver they stock the bread that didn't sell in three days at the supermarket. No matter how you slice it, it's a steal.
"One-hundred percent whole wheat bread is our number one mover," said Debbie Scherlong, manager of Entenmann's Bakery Outlet Store. "It sells like $4.19 at the grocery store and we sell if for $1.89 or two for $3.59 in here."
Scherlong says the bread is good quality.

"Put it in the freezer and you're set to go for quite a while," a shopper said.
The bakery outlet sells a number of name brands. It carries chips, cookies, crackers and more.
The story even has fresh products at 20 percent off.
"I bought five loaves of bread, two bags of chips, hot dog buns, got a free Danish and a free English muffin and I spent $11.75," another shopper said.
Entenmann's Bakery Outlet Store has been around for about 30 years. There are five others in Colorado.
