US Attorney Will Run For Colorado Attorney General

DENVER (AP) ― The outgoing U.S. attorney for Colorado says he'll run for state attorney general in 2010.

Troy Eid said Wednesday he'll resign his federal job when President-elect Barack Obama takes office. Eid says he'll return to private practice while preparing to run for the state job.

It's standard for U.S attorneys to resign when a new administration comes in.

Eid was appointed by President George W. Bush and took office in August 2006. As the top federal prosecutor in Colorado, he helped oversee the case against former Qwest CEO Joe Nacchio.

Nacchio's conviction on insider trading charges was overturned. The case is now before a federal appeals court.

Eid previously served as chief counsel and secretary for personnel and administration under then-Gov. Bill Owens from 1999 to 2003.
