Musgrave Supporter Files Complaint Against Markey
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) ―
A Republican supporter of congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave has filed a complaint against opponent Betsy Markey, saying she received contracts for her company while she worked for Sen. Ken Salazar.
Ron Buxman said the Musgrave campaign helped him prepare the complaint in which he accuses Markey of violating federal law by not divesting the interest in her company while pursuing government contracts.
Markey's company, Syscom Services Inc., offers consultation services on Web sites, electronic communications and data processing.
The complaint was reported in Tuesday's editions of the Greeley Tribune.
Markey campaign spokesman Ben Marter called the complaint "a blatant political stunt."
Markey is challenging Musgrave for her 4th Congressional District seat, which includes most of eastern and northern Colorado.
Musgrave, who is seeking a fourth term, also filed a similar complaint with the Larimer District Attorney's Office. She alleged that Markey used her job with Salazar to obtain government contracts for Syscom.
Buxman filed his complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice. Buxman is the state Republican chairman for the district seat being contested.
Markey also filed a complaint with the district attorney in Larimer against Musgrave, accusing her of lying in television ads.
