It's Crunch Time For Downtown Hotels

 Section: Democratic National Convention Section
DENVER (CBS4) ― The countdown is on for downtown hotels. They have less than a week to get ready for the Democratic National Convention.

At the Grand Hyatt, they're expecting to use 50,000 glasses to make 28,000 desserts and launder 70,000 pounds of linen. They are also renovating an entire floor.

"It's all the furnishing in place, all the painting done, and the walls constructed," Mary Ann Yuthas with Grand Hyatt Denver said.

The Grand Hyatt is hosting the entire Colorado delegation, so they're spending almost $4 million to renovate the entire 26th floor. Six premier suites are located there. Instead of focusing on 'bigger is better,' party-goers will be treated to 800-square feet in a residential-style setting.

"These suites will primarily be used I believe for viewing television and all the things going on at the convention, down at the Pepsi center," Yuthas said. "I also believe they will be used for entertaining clients and for small more intimate parties."

The hotel is expecting 30,000 people will come and go to several events. So they are bringing in extra staff from other Hyatt hotels and letting them know about the extra security measures that will be in place when they come to work.

"We've got unique keys that are specific to the DNC; making sure everyone is in tune with the security function of the event getting in and out of the hotel," Kevin Hodge with Grand Hyatt Denver said.

After the convention many may need a break, so the Grand Hyatt is offering a DNC recovery package. Those who book one of the new suites will be able to donate $500 dollars to the charity of their choice.
