Poll: Economy Forces Coloradans To Change Habits

Economic Policy Could Be Key To Presidential Race In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4) ― The latest CBS4/Rocky Mountain News poll shows 75 percent of registered voters in Colorado are making at least some lifestyle changes because of the economy.

The price at the gas pumps has fueled changes in habits because of the increasing cost.

People are either driving less or cutting back on other spending.

Many people CBS4 talked to are combining errands because it's more fuel efficient.

"So, if I have to go to some place in Littleton, I make sure I take care of all of my Littleton needs at one time instead of having to go back and forth like I used to," said Malinda Perry of Castle Rock.

"I just look and see what I really need and I think to myself, 'gee, I don't need that extra pair of shoes,'" said Carlene Evanoff of Denver.

The CBS4/Rocky poll found 78 percent of registered voters are driving less because of gas prices.

The pollsters said voters are angry over the economy. The presidential candidate who can address the pocketbook issues the best will have a better chance of winning Colorado, they said. Because Colorado is a battleground state, winning here could also mean winning the White House.
