Rhode Island Sen. Reed, Daschle To Speak To Dems
DENVER (AP) ―
Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, a defense expert who's been mentioned as a possible running mate for Barack Obama, will speak at the Democratic National Convention next week.
Organizers said Tuesday that Reed will speak Wednesday night, when the theme is "Securing America's Future." Also speaking that night are former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the presidential Democratic candidate in 2004.
Nancy Keenan, president of the abortion-rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America, and Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood of America, will also speak at the convention.
Other speakers announced Tuesday include former President Carter, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.
Details of the program for the convention's final night on Aug. 28 haven't been announced.
Obama will give his acceptance that night at Invesco Field at Mile High, the 75,000-seat stadium where the Denver Broncos play.
The theme is "Change You Can Believe In," and Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter has been announced as one of the night's speakers.

Jesse Jackson Jr.; former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton; Tom Balanoff, president of the Illinois Service Employees International Union; Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America; Reg Weaver, president of the National Education Association; Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers; Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan; Illinois State Comptroller Dan Hynes; Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulis; Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle; Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; and Miami Mayor Manny Diaz. Monday also features a tribute to Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Others include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada; Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed; Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar; House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn of South Carolina; Florida Rep. Robert Wexler; and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Murphy and Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth will lead a tribute to active-duty military personnel and their families.
