State Sen. Isgar Considered For USDA Position

DENVER (AP) ― State Sen. Jim Isgar of Hesperus might leave office before his term runs out next year.

The Democrat and La Plata County rancher says he's being considered for the position of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's state director of rural development. He would have to resign his Senate seat if he's appointed.

Isgar couldn't seek re-election because of term limits.

Isgar was appointed to the Senate in 2001, after then-Sen. Jim Dyer got a job with the state Public Utilities Commission. Isgar won election in 2002 and 2006.

He heads the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resource and Energy committee and is a member of the finance, legislative audit and legislative council committees.
