Summary Of Education Bills Signed By Ritter

DENVER (AP) ― Governor Bill Ritter signed four education bills Wednesday as part of his education reform package: 

• The Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids aligns the educational system from preschool through college and establishes new standards and assessments. 

• The School Finance Act allows 6,254 at-risk 3- and 4-year-olds to attend preschools, expands full-day kindergarten to 7,000 more children next school year and to more than 22,000 students over five years. 

• Early Kindergarten for Gifted Children provides early kindergarten or first grade for gifted children. 

• Interdepartmental Data Protocols creates a streamlined education data system that connects different departments for improving research and policy.
