Colorado's newly appointed senator says he supports the president's stimulus plan.
Sen. Michael Bennet held a meet and greet over the weekend at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and hundreds lined up to see him.
Bennet says he hopes a stimulus package can get passed by mid February.
"What we need are to be investing in things that are going to pay benefits in the short term but also the long term that are real investments in our economy to get it moving again -- unlike the bailout that was done in September. That money is still sitting in banks in New York. None of that money has gotten to communities like Colorado," he said.
Bennet wants to land on one of the Senate's agricultural, banking or homeland security committees.
As for the possibility of bringing terror suspects from Guantanamo Bay to Colorado's Supermax facility, Bennet says before making a decision he would like to talk with prison officials and the local communities.
Bennet was sworn in last week as the replacement for fellow Democrat Ken Salazar, who became Secretary of the Interior.
