Bennet Plans 5-Day Colorado Tour
DENVER (AP) ―
Michael Bennet, named by Gov. Bill Ritter to succeed U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar if Salazar is confirmed as U.S. Interior secretary, plans a five-day statewide tour to introduce himself to Coloradans.
A spokesman for Bennet said he and Ritter will visit communities across the state to hear voter concerns about the economy and other issues.
Their trip starts Friday, ends Tuesday and includes stops in Loveland, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Steamboat Springs, Grand Junction, Pueblo and Alamosa.
Ritter's selection surprised many Republicans and Democrats, who considered Bennet, the Denver public schools superintendent, a dark horse candidate because he lacks legislative experience. The 44-year-old Democrat has never run for or held public office.
Bennet acknowledges his lack of legislative experience but promises to be a fast learner. He also plans to run for the Senate seat in the 2010 general election.
