Abused Dog Gets Cart To Move Around

DENVER (CBS4) ― A dog who survived eight months on the streets of Taos, New Mexico without the use of her back legs now has a specially made cart to help her get around.

The Maxfund took in a dog named "Millie," which means strength and determination. She was introduced to her new cart Wednesday.

A donor paid to have the custom cart made for Millie, who still has more physical therapy ahead of her before she can be adopted.

Millie's spine is fused and she had been dragging herself around the streets, looking for food and shelter. There is even evidence that Mille was shot with BB guns. A concerned citizen finally was able to catch her in a trash can. A shelter in New Mexico contacted the Maxfund because it's a "no kill" shelter.

Millie's back legs were nearly worn down to the bones from dragging them around. Her front legs are strong and she will easily be able to pull herself around.

"We are hopeful that with physical therapy and good wishes toward her and her cart, which we have a wonderful volunteer who got a cart for her so she's going to be able to use that cart and have that sense back, that she'll be able to walk again," Heidi Hahn, the director of the shelter's Wellness Center, said. "We've seen miracles here."
