Duck-Hunting Restrictions Considered

STERLING, Colo. (AP) ― Colorado wildlife managers are considering whether to limit duck hunting along the South Platte River in northeast Colorado.

State Division of Wildlife officials say duck numbers are more or less flat along the South Platte, while populations are growing in other areas.

They say possible causes include too much hunting, migration shifts, weather conditions and habitat changes.

The restrictions under consideration would cover a two-mile-wide corridor along the river from Greeley to the Nebraska state line. They would include limiting days and hours for hunting and requiring hunters to get reservations.

Wildlife officials discussed the proposals at a public meeting last week in Sterling. More meetings are planned in Fort Morgan, Fort Collins, Greeley and Denver.
