The owners of a Yorkshire terrier puppy business lost their home last week to fire. But all their dogs survived.
The house of Walt and Linda Queen went up in smoke on Thursday, March 19. Firefighters say the structure was totally destroyed, but the dozen plus puppies in the basement were all rescued.
"We breed the finest Yorkies in the world," said Walt Queen, co owner of the business, Queen Yorkies.
His wife, Linda, says the pups are more than a business for them.
"They're our life, they're our babies, they're just like our children," she told CBS4.
Ben Sandoval knows exactly how they feel about their dogs. He adopted two puppies from the Queens more than a year ago. Now Layla and Benji are part of his family.
"Well she sleeps with me and the male sleeps with Mama," Sandoval said.
He heard about the fire at the Queens' home and wanted to help. He asked CBS4 to pay it forward by providing $1,000 to help care for the puppies until permanent homes can be found. His puppies, he says, bring him hours of comfort.
"I wish I could do more to help them." Sandoval said.
The Queens say they can rebuild the house, but they could never have replaced the puppies had they perished.
"I just kept praying to God they were all o.k." says Linda Queen.
And, indeed, all the tiny puppies are active, cuddly and just fine today.
