Donations Help 3-Year-Old Get Closer To Final Wish

Written by Suzanne McCarroll

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (CBS4) ― Isaac Krebs loves, puzzles, books, board games and his scooter. He is weary of doctors, shots, hospitals and medicine.

Krebs was diagnosed with leukemia more than a year ago. He spent five months in the hospital in isolation with doctors trying to send his deadly disease into remission. It didn't work.

Now his family is trying to take him on one last family vacation to Disneyland.

"In June, doctors told us there was nothing else they could do, his cancer was terminal. They sent us home to make memories," said Isaac's mother, Christa Krebs. That's exactly what she is now trying to do.

Last spring, Krebs made one trip to the beach and Disneyworld. He hasn't stopped talking about it since. Now he wants to go to the Disneyland park in California with his entire family.

Friends are sending in donations to help with the cost of the trip, and CBS4 paid it forward with a $1,000 check, but the Krebs say they are still short on funds. They are also short on time.

"I won't have an opportunity to do this a year from now," Christa said.

Krebs has quit her job to stay home with her son.

"We do a lot of tickling," she said about her effort to keep him happy and giggling.

As she prepares for this family vacation, she's also trying to prepare her little boy and herself for what comes next.

"He's not afraid of dying. He doesn't understand dying. He knows doctors can't help him anymore and that he's going to Heaven to live with Jesus."

What she doesn't know is how she will get along without him.

"Each and every day I wonder what it's going to be like when he gone."

For now, focusing on a trip to Disneyland is getting the family through the toughest of times.
