Denver Truck Driver Pays It 4Ward In Windsor

The idea behind CBS4's Pay it Forward Colorado project is to give $1,000 to a Coloradan (or group of Coloradans) who will use the money to change someone else's life. Submit your ideas on YouReport . Below lies CBS4's June 3 report.  

WINDSOR, Colo. (CBS4) - The tornado that struck in Windsor on May 22 destroyed a day care center, but the children inside survived. The children's courage and perseverance touched a local truck driver, and now Billy England wants to use his vehicle to pay it forward.

"We'd like to fill it with toys for the daycare in Windsor that blew away," England told CBS4.

The children are still stunned by their encounter with Mother Nature.

"Very scary for the children, they were terrified during that time," day care director, Krysti Bernhardt said.

Right now the children play in the gym of a public school in Windsor. It's temporary housing for the day care, while crews clear out and clean up the damaged building. The children do artwork to decorate the walls and make their new surroundings feel more like home.

"Every little bit is helping the kids get back to normalcy," Bernhardt said.

The preschoolers don't know Billy England, but soon they'll know a little something about this truck driver's character. As a truck driver for Brannan Sand & Gravel, he's used to delivering sand and asphalt. This week he wants to fill the back of his truck with toy trucks, cars and stuffed animals that will bring comfort and joy to the little lives.

"Better than hauling sand, oh yea, better pay -- pay from the heart," is how England described what it would be like to pull up to the day care and unload the donations.

Additional Information

You can help in the effort to help the day care. England is collecting donations of new, unused toys at various locations. The drive will run through Friday, June 13. He then plans to make the big delivery.
