Neighbors Pay It 4ward To Prosecutor's Widow

Written by CBS4 special projects producer Libby Smith
The idea behind CBS4's Pay it Forward Colorado project is to give $1,000 to a Coloradan (or group of Coloradans) who will use the money to change someone else's life. Submit your ideas on YouReport Below lies CBS4's Sept. 11 report.

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver coroner's office released a report indicating that Adams County Deputy District Attorney Sean May died of a gunshot wound to his head. The coroner's report also says that May was shot in the left side of his abdomen and that his death was a homicide.

The shooting happened outside May's Highland's neighborhood home a week and a half ago. Denver police are still looking for suspects. May's wife is also looking for answers and neighbors are horrified that such violence could happen in their small close knit area.

"It's just a quiet, quaint neighborhood," said Randy Wood, a 17-year resident.

Residents and business owners were stunned when someone shot and killed May during daylight hour's right in front of his home.

"I saw all the cars over there, knew something was up, my heart was in my mouth - you do know a lot of people," said Lois Harvey, owner of West Side's Book Annex.

Sean May leaves behind a young wife, pregnant with the couple's first child.

"That young widow needs support," Wood added.

So the owner of the corner wine shop is matching a $1,000 donation from CBS4 to the May family. The shop owner doesn't want any personal publicity for his effort, saying only this:

"Mondo Vino supports neighbors and those we live with. It's a great community to raise children in. I have a 10-month-old baby boy. Sean May was stripped of the opportunity of raising and seeing his children grow up. I want Sean's widow to use this money however she sees fit."

Those who work and live in the Highlands want the May family to know they are loved.

"Obviously, our hearts are with them our prayers especially for the newborn baby coming," Wood told CBS4.

This eclectic neighborhood is paying it forward hoping to reassure the Mays that they have friends who want to help them heal.
