Family Pays It 4ward To Mother Who Lost Sons
The idea behind CBS4's Pay it Forward Colorado project is to give $1,000 to a Coloradan (or group of Coloradans) who will use the money to change someone else's life. Below lies CBS4's Dec. 18 report.
DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - The family of a 90-year-old woman who has lived longer than both her sons is Paying It Forward to her. Both of Leola Minnick's sons died in the last month.
Timothy Minnick, 48, was gunned down last Friday night in the parking lot of the Grizzly Rose Bar. He was working there as a security guard.
Leola's other son died of a heart attack.
Leola now lives by herself in a rural home. Timothy lived on her property in a trailer to help.
"I'd call and tell him my furnace was out and he'd be right over and he'd take me to the doctor," said Leola.
Leola's granddaughter and great grandson work to understand why something like this could happen. They both know Timothy would want them to reach out to Leola.
"He was friendly, outgoing, smiling," said Tammy Betts, Leola's granddaughter.
Leola has seen a lot in her time, but nothing she's endured compares to this.
"It's not the natural progression of life to outlive your children. No it isn't. It's not supposed to work that way," she said.
Leola has lived in the country for nearly 40 years. She's never felt alone, until now.
