During last week's spring blizzard, dozens of drivers lost control of their cars and ended up stranded alongside the highway. One good Samaritan stopped to help a stranded driver and ended up getting hit by another car.
Cory Palm stopped alongside I-25 to help a stranger dig out of a snow drift. That's when an oncoming car hit him.
Cory thought his life was over.
"I heard the engine rev and that horrible sound of crushing metal." Palm told CBS4.
Now he is in Denver Health Medical with a broken leg, cracked rib, damaged kidney and lung, but his spirit is healthy and strong.
"I didn't think it was that big a deal," he said about stopping to help.
CBS4 viewers think it's a very big deal. The station has received emails and calls from all across Colorado, from Hugo to Parker to the Western Slope.
"I think it would be nice to pay it forward and let him know that people, even strangers appreciate that there are still good people in this sometimes crazy world," one viewer wrote in an e-mail.
Don Bailey is a disabled Vietnam veteran.
He injured both his legs during the war. When he saw the video of Cory Palm sitting in a hospital bed with a broken leg, he knew he had to help. He asked CBS4 to pay it forward giving one thousand dollars to Palm for his medical bills.
"With all the hatred in the world, its people like him that kind of turn on the light, it makes you feel good inside." Bailey said.
Palm hopes to get out of the hospital later this week. He has months of rehabilitation ahead. But he also has the support and admiration of CBS4 viewers, who say the world needs more people like Cory Palm.
